The Past
Make-up has been used to enhance features for over 7000 years. In ancient Egypt, Cleopatra wore kohl to line her eyes and ground carmine beetles to add a hue to her lips. Our relationship with beauty products forms a part of our history. It evolves and adapts to the changing times, and we are presented with increasingly clever ways to boost our appearance.
The Present
One recent invention that has everyone rushing to the nearest supplier is fiber mascara. Our eyes are our main focus when it comes to make-up. Most women, if forced to choose just one product, would pick a decent mascara over all other beauty products. That’s because our eyes are our best feature. No one has a pair of eyes that can’t be made larger and more cat-like using a few simple tricks.
The Future
To frame the eyes, thick, long and evenly spaced lashes are preferable. Fiber mascaras are a great alternative to falsies or extensions because they work by attaching synthetic fibers to your own lashes, which you can then build up for greater density depending on the look you’re going for. Fiber mascaras are particularly great for those who have fine, limp and short lashes. What’s more, they’re cost effective, less time consuming, and easily washed off! No more glue trouble from falsies, or lash loss from extensions. Hurrah!
What to look for?
There are several brands of fiber mascara on the market. Usually made using silk, rayon or nylon, there are 3D, 4D, 1-step, 2-step, and 3-step versions. Each has its own benefits and system of application, so it depends on how much you’re willing to spend and the time you’re willing to put into creating your perfect peepers. Shop around if you’re sensitive to certain products, as hypoallergenic, paraben-free and vegan formulas are all available.
Our favorite is the Siren 1-Step, which both volumizes and lengthens to create a 4D effect. We love it because it’s easy to use, smudge and flake proof, long wearing and handles rain, humidity and sweat like a pro!
How easy is it to apply?
Like with all new mascaras, it takes a little time and effort to get used to, yet applying a 1-step fiber mascara isn’t any different to applying regular mascara. Just expect the build-up to be quicker and more intense than usual. If you’ve opted for a two-step or three-step version, then read the instructions carefully and practice until you get it right. Think about using an eyelash comb for clump-prone mistakes while you’re still learning. Then, when you’ve mastered the look, flutter those lashes like you rule an entire empire.
