Top make-up trends for this coming winter

Updated: Feb 7, 2020

Winter is coming, which means cozy fires, big sweaters, hot cocoa, shorter days and softly lit evenings. It’s a snowy backdrop for warmer fashion and a chance to experiment with the coolest new make-up trends.

To stay chilly-chic this coming winter, here’s what to look out for.

All that glitters

Glitter is making a comeback – the more dazzling the better. Think gold dust on your lashes, confetti from your lids to your brows, and a sparkle of rouge on your lips. You’ll be transformed into a 1970s reveler (minus the bad hair), where all that shimmered was gold and no one was lost in the cold.

Top tip: Bring the look into 2019 by using plastic-free and biodegradable alternatives for some ocean friendly glamour.

Dare to bare

Clear, flawless and dewy skin is on-trend this winter. This look is about promoting the benefits of a good skincare routine by creating fresh-faced complexions using minimal products and gentle highlights. Tackle the drying effects of the season by investing in some tinted moisturizers and brightening wands.

Limitless lashes

Lash art is the newest beauty-industry obsession. Long, dense and uniformed lashes are key, whether you use fiber mascara or falsies. Add some dramatic liner with razor sharp edges for a strong and bold look, then get as creative as your heart desires. Your face and lips should stay neutral to ensure your eyes remain the center of attention.

Bow to the brow

After the 90’s forced everyone to pluck their brows to extinction, beautiful brows recently came back with demands to be seen. This winter, they either want to make a statement or none at all. So, show them off in all their framing glory!

Lips as red as blood

Red has often been a color that denotes sophistication and sensuality. That hasn’t changed. This winter, the red lip takes on many shades, all with vibrant pigments and clean edges. The bolder the better, whether they’re finished with a coat of gloss or powdered for a matte effect. Just remember to use minimal and natural make-up on the rest of your face.

Smolder and smoke

The smoky eye is a classic look that suits the winter weather. Pale, dewy complexions flatter the bold liner and perfectly layered shadow that creates the characteristic smolder. Think about adding a shimmer of gold to your eyelids and below your bottom lashes for an extra sparkle in your gaze.

Metallic shades and shadows

Gold is growing in popularity this winter, with metallic shades, shadows and foils littering Instagram’s make-up feeds. Celebrities such as Emma Stone, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Amanda Seyfried and Priyanka Chopra all wore the metallic ‘angel eyes’ look for its dazzling effect. Paired with a natural face and neutral lips, the look blends the future and past for a post-modern glow that’s sure to turn heads. And if gold isn’t your color, there a several metallic hues for you to play around with.
