The busiest shipping time of the year is upon us. According to USPS, they will deliver more than 20 million packages per day during the two weeks before Christmas.
Tis the season for giving, but unfortunately, also for taking. I’m talking about porch pirates. They’ll take all the packages right off your porch, ruining your upcoming holiday.
Here are some tips to keep those packages under your tree and away from those sneaky pirates.
Route Package Protection
Protect Everything you order online, in one place. The Route App automatically connects to everything you’ve ordered while allowing you to visually track your packages, anytime, anywhere. If your package is stolen or damaged, you will be reimbursed for your items with their seamless one-click claims filing. At only 98 cents for orders under $100 and 2% or less after that, Route is an amazing value.
Track Your Packages
Most mail carriers have a tracking service that will provide updates for you, so you know where your package is at all times. It often includes your package’s destination, the date, and the time of delivery. Keep your tracking number at hand because you’ll need it to track your shipment. Another tracking option is Route – an app that once downloaded, will connect to all your package orders and allows you to track your package every step of the way. Route gives you a real-time view of where all your packages are.
PO Box
Another handy tip is to get a PO Box. USPS offers a range of PO Box sizes to ensure all your mail and packages can fit in one safe spot. Pricing varies. Here is a link that has all of USPS’ PO box sizes that they have.
Security System
Having a security system can have two benefits. Security may deter thieves or catch them in the act on camera, giving police an opportunity to identify the dread pirate. Ring is a popular option right now because it’s controlled completely on your smartphone. By placing a Ring camera at your front door, it will detect any activity that takes place near it, such as on your porch or your front yard, depending on where you set it up. Ring can be mounted anywhere, including on your front door.
Timing is Key
One of the easiest things you can do to defeat porch pirates is to take your package inside immediately. Prevention is the best cure. When you leave your package sitting out all day while you’re at work or out doing errands, thieves will likely take that as a great opportunity to snatch what isn’t theirs. You can also have your package shipped to another location if you know you’re not going to be home all day, according to Ring.com. Many delivery companies like USPS allow you to deliver right to their store so you can pick it up later when it’s a better time for you.
One way or another, our team at Tori Belle hopes that you get all of your packages theft free this year.
